Novalesa

The Novalesa
falls (also called “ponytail” falls) are 7 km far from Susa.

They are
easily accessible by bike, by car and also on foot.
(If you have enough training).
The best way to enjoy them is to arrive at Novalesa by car, and
then take a walk. The falls are on the right, about 100 metres
from the built-up area in Novalesa.
It is an ideal place to have a picnic, to breathe pure air, to
climb or to go on a trip in the beautiful surroundings.
In the summer, the waterfall is a fresh and windy place and the
water droplets touching the skin are very pleasing;
if you want to take a shower under it, bring a towel with you and
be cautious because the water is very cold.
During the winter this waterfall, that comes from the overhanging
snowfields and glaciers, freezes almost completely; the flow of
water is therefore covered by a thick layer of ice which gives to
the place a fascinating aspect.
Wrap up well, and be careful because it’s slippery.
When the ice is thick, it is possible to climb the waterfall using
the ice axes.
How to reach Novalesa?
From Susa, take the main road to Montcenis lake, after about 1 km
turn right past the road sign (Mompantero-Novalesa) and after
around 6 km past the village of Venaus, you fill find Novalesa.
Don’t forget to visit the town of Novalesa and its abbey.
